Peter’s Desk

February 28, 2008

Hello

It’s been a while since I’ve updated the pastor’s desk but hopefully this blog thing will be easier to use than the other format.

It’s been a challenge keeping up with the growing needs of the church but all the problems that we have is only because God has been good to us. There is a temptation to want status quo because change always brings uncertainty and uncertainty always brings anxiety. Apostle Paul admonishes us not to be anxious about anything in the book of Philippians. So to not to be anxious in a sense is a challenge not to fear change but to embrace it. To be sanctified means to change. To disciple people is to desire change in others. To share the gospel is to labor to change the world. To build a healthy church is to continue to want and expect change in the church. Change is good as long as it is a result of faithful labor. There has been much change in the church and more change is coming. The challenge of keeping up with the changes is much better than being frustrated because nothing ever changes. Praise God for the changes he has brought into our church. Praise God for the promise of renewal for everyone who loves and seeks His face. Praise God

Spurgeon Wants to Pump…You Up!

Many of you have noticed that I’ve been trying to hit the gym recently. Most assume (understandably) that it’s so that I can fill out my tux and look good at my upcoming wedding. That is only partially true. The Prince of Preachers himself however, offers even greater motivation:

Gentlemen with narrow chests are advised to use the dumb-bells every morning, or better still, those clubs which the College has provided for you. You need broad chests, and must do your best to get them. (Lectures to my Students; C.H. Spurgeon, 123).

Strangely, the folks in seminary never taught me this…
